• Hydrocooling is used for many fresh market products, including many types of tree fruit, melons, root vegetables and stem vegetables.
  • This method is never used for grapes, cut flowers and most berries because the surface water left after cooling encourages decay.
  • The main types of hydrocooler are water shower and product-immersion designs. In the first type, water is pumped above the product and rains down past it.
  • Produce in containers or unpacked product moves slowly and continuously through the shower or produce in containers can be loaded as a batch in the cooler.
There are 3 types of Hydrocooler :
  • Continuous flow immersion Hydrocooler
  • Batch hydrocooler with product in bins
  • Continuous flow shower hydrocooler
